Rather than filling up the thread about Ricketts Point about the J7 Submarine at Sandringham, I thought I would create a new thread:

Sandringham Sub
I haven't dived it. As I understand it the Yacht Club won't let you access it from the marina. I doubt that they could prevent you doing it from the shore, or entering from the breakwater. However you would have a long swim and possibly lots of boat traffic to beware of. I believe the viz is generally poor and have been told that scuba is a bit of a waste of time since it is shallow enough to snorkel. I also believe that penetration of the sub is possible but it is extremely silty and should only be done by divers trained and equipped for wreck penetration. However this is all second hand info!
I was lucky to be involved in a corrosion study for the J-Class Submarines in 2004-2005 which you can read a little about here: http://www.southernoceanexploration.com/jclass.php

Anyway, I took these images of the J7 at the marina while we were doing the measurements. The site is putrid, silty and horrible, typical water that you would find in a marina.

Even if given permission from the Marina to "dive" it, pass it up as it is a waste of time lugging gear all the way from the car park right around to the site, especially when you could be diving any other of the subs.

Cheers
